Carl Jacobsen, General Manager of Beatitude House Green Clean presented stock certificates to Remona Gordon and Joyce Koellner at Beatitude House’s annual Wine Taste and Auction held Friday May 3, 2013. Remona and Joyce now become the newest worker/owners in the co-op.

Beatitude House Green Clean workers and co-op members have started training this year, in an effort to grow not only professionally but personally. 

BHGC is working with Hands on Volunteer Network to complete workshops specific to small business, such as team building, mission and goals and understanding bylaws. The women will also complete the Beatitude House financial module. The curriculum will include guest speakers and activities to help the women with personal financial concerns, such as getting their credit reports, creating a budget and savings plan, and working to reduce debt.  These training sessions are one way Beatitude House Green Clean works to create positive changes of our employees.

Beatitude House Green Clean will be cleaning at little more for  OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology.  In addition to the regular cleaning, employees will clean the entrances, main lobby and Bistro areas in order to keep the museum extra clean for the over 40,000 visitors the staff expects to welcome during the winter.

Workers and supervisors had a wonderful time at the Beatitude House Green Clean Christmas Luncheon on December 9th.  After a nice meal, the group took time to relax and reflect upon the past year. There was a sense of togetherness and a new appreciation of the year’s accomplishments.  As part of the festivities a donor had provided a variety of Mary Kay cosmetics, which were made into gift bags for each woman.  Another donor provided Christmas cards and bracelets.  The women were excited to receive the gifts, and welcomed the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company outside of work.

 “The women kept thanking me for the party, and I had to keep telling them, I am not giving you this party, you earned it through your hard work,” said Carl Jacobson, Green Clean General Manager.

Beatitude House Green Clean has received a $3,000 grant from the local Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) to assist with additional training for workers and transportation costs.   

CCHD is the U.S. Catholic Bishops’ national and local anti-poverty program that provides funds for community organizing, social change, community economic development projects and education on the causes of poverty. 

“We truly appreciate the support we have received from CCHD,” said Carl Jacobson, General Manager Beatitude House Green Clean. “It will enable us to continue to make positive changes in the lives of disadvantaged women in our community.”

The historic Pollock House, on the campus of Youngstown State University, will become the residence of the university’s president.  Built in the 1890’s, the house recently underwent extensive remodeling. YSU hired Beatitude House Green Clean to rid the building of all of the construction dust. 

The four story building was cleaned top to bottom by the Green Clean Coop owners.  From Mary Vel Vera cleaning the original rough concrete hallway in the basement, to Joan Martin cleaning the main floor sitting room, to Tamekia Cowart mopping the wood floor of the grand hallway  and Erica Pierce concentrating on getting the windows and wood blinds clean, the Pollock House now shines!  YSU plans to retain the services of Green Clean when there are official gatherings at the residence.

Congratulations goes out to Tameka Cowart – Ward who recently became a Beatitude House Green Clean Coop Owner. Tameka has been with the company for 10 months and is looking forward to beginning classes as Youngstown State University soon.
